2007-2008 Internships Available!

Paid internships for the 2007-08 school year are now available for those dedicated to gender equality and a community free of sexual violence.

Requirements for the internships include: ability to work from a feminist perspective, commitment to 40 hours a quarter and weekly meetings, and attending Spring quarter training. Previous interns have found their experiences to be enriching and a positive influence on their everyday lives. They have also found that the internships have enhanced their academic studies as well.

Positions that are available are:

  • Media Outreach
  • Residence Halls Programmer
  • Arts/Design
  • Outreach to Student Groups of Color
  • Students Stopping Rape Coordinator

You do not have to be a member of SSR to apply. However, it is recommended you come to our weekly meetings, Wednesdays at 5pm! Everyone is welcome.

Sunday’s planning meeting went very well and we got a lot of signage and projects started for It Affects Me (IAM). Thanks to all who came out! This Wednesday will be one of the last few IAM planning meetings before the quarter ends, so don’t miss it! We will be having break-out meetings.

After years of advocacy and debate, Ghana is moving closer to adopting a comprehensive law on domestic violence. The country’s male dominated parliament passed a bill last week, but removed a controversial clause that would have made rape in marriage a criminal offense. Two Women Gang-Raped by Iraqi Security Forces
Two alleged gang rapes of Iraqi women by national security forces caused an uproar in Iraq last week. On February 19, a 20-year-old Sunni woman claimed on Al-Jazeera television that she was gang-raped by Iraqi national police after they took her to their Baghdad headquarters for questioning. Just days later, four Iraqi soldiers admitted to raping another Sunni woman in her home in northwestern Iraq.
